On my main blog, I have posted comments on episode 10 and 11 of Kamen Rider Decade, as he encounters the really disinteresting alternate take on 555.

Over on my main blog, I have posted comments on episodes eight and line of Kamen Rider Decade.

This introduces my favourite of all Final Form Rides, but also has the most absolutely annoying scene in the entire show. I won't even say which scene, I hate it so darned much!

In solidarity with websites such as Wikipedia, Reddit and Google, which will to various degrees modify their websites on January 18th in protest against the SOPA and PIPA legislation currently under consideration in the US, I have blacked out my main blog. If you visit it from now until midnight (USEST (4pm Thursday AEDST) on January 19th (aka., Wednesday night), you will see a simple message explaining this.

The next day, I will blog about why I did this.

Note that if you follow any links I have recently posted to my main blog from here on Dreamwidth, you will be taken to a blacked-out page.

Okay, so it is just clips from recent shows and movies, but I'm still more than a little excited. :P

Over on my main blog, I have adapted [livejournal.com profile] icysnowdrop 's Kamen Rider meme, but switched it to Super Sentai so I can actually answer the questions. :P

On my main blog, I have posted comments on my rewatch of Kamen Rider Decade's reimagining of my favourite series so far...

Really, this show makes so much more sense the second time you watch it. :P
kamen rider
On my main blog, I have just posted comments on my rewatch of Episodes 04 and 05 of Kamen Rider Decade. Very interesting stuff - Decade's story is getting complicated!
kamen rider
Continuing my rewatch, I have posted comments on Episodes 02 and 03 of Kamen Rider Decade, chronicling his adventures in Kuuga's World.

I am rewatching Kamen Rider Decade, and have posted comments on the first episode.

It really is so much better the second time!

Over on my main blog, I have made a post regarding today's announced Hokounin Sentai Akibaranger, drawing a parallel between it and Sparanger.
general toku
So, in working out how best to tackle my massive toku watchlist, I figured I'd wipe the slate clean and watch from scratch.

To that end, I am breaking things into more manageable chunks. Specifically, in the case of Kamen Rider and Super Sentai, I am breaking them into "Original Era" and "New Era".

For Kamen Rider, the Eras are:

OE: Kamen Rider - > Kamen Rider Decade
NE: Kamen Rider Decade - > Kamen Rider Fourze

For Super Sentai, the Eras are:

OE: Himitsu Sentai Goranger - > Kaizoku Sentai Goukaiger
NE: Kaizoku Sentai Goukaiger - > Tokumei Sentai Go-busters

So I am kicking in again starting with the "new eras", and I plan to watch (or rewatch, where relevant) the "original era" series in order. The only real exception to how this will work is with Go-busters, as I want to get my head around the Metal Heroes franchise first; so there might be a bit of delay in when I watch that series.

Folks, my toku watch list has seen some major additions and has moved.

Credit still goes to [personal profile] arrow for most of the work. :P

I have updated the link in the sidebar to push to the new location.

NOTE: I have so far just recompiiled the bulk of the list. These things are by definition a constant work in progress (unless I quit the fandom, which I don't see happening soon) so don't take it as "complete" unless I explicitly state otherwise, okay? I say this now because looking at the list right at this moment would suggest I have seen nothing...

Hiya, all.

Just a quick head's up - there is an Android application called Eljay, which is a client for LiveJournal-based sites. It includes built-in support for Dreamwidth (yaaaaay!) and it can do everything you might expect... except view your Reading page, because of Dreamwidth's unique friending/reading/subscription system.

But it is ideal for posting on the go, and very easy to use.

And, of course, it is FREE.

It is great to see DW getting more love in these sorts of apps. :)

WOW!
So we finally have the first promo for Tokumei Sentai Gobusters... and wow wow wow. It is brilliant. I love the look of the combined mecha. And the suits.

But... I don't get it! I like Red and Blue way more than Yellow, despite my love of girl Yellows. Very strange!

And also I keep hearing "bastards" instead of "busters" but whatever.

Hi, gang!

So, 2012 is upon us. Believe it or not, I completed most of my goals for 2011! Here are my BROAD goals for 2012 - I don't go into too specific detail, as many of them cover private things. I'll likely make individual posts as these are achieved, and come back and cross them off here.

As always, I give myself January as a free month to start getting in the habit.

The one of interest to most people is last! :-)

1. Fulfill writing schedule
Meet all writing plans - this means writing an average of 8,400 words per week. Of utmost importance are meeting all PSP 20th Anniversary and AC writing commitments.

2. Travel to Japan
My current plan is to be in Japan for the release of the Super Hero War Kamen Rider / Super Sentai crossover movie, and to see it at the cinema. I also plan to be there on my birthday - but if for some reason I cannot be there for the movie, the August/birthday trip will be enough to meet this resolution.

3. Pay off credit card
I owe $3,300 on a credit card. I want that paid by December 31st.

4. Get a degree
I foolishly quit studying to be a teacher with one year to go. I may return to this, but regardless I want a Bachelor's degree of some sort by December 31st, or be on track for one (i.e., be in my final semester or study period on that date).

5. Don't let OCD or BIID affect work/social life
That means never turning down an invitation or failing to do something due to OCD or BIID. This also means never missing work due exclusively to them, either.

6. Moderate fast food eating
Every year I commit to giving up Vanilla Coke, but that, good sirs and dames, ain't ever gonna happen, and I accept that now. Instead, I will reduce my fast food eating to one "free pass" per week - meaning I can have it just because I want to once a week. Now, because of the way the world works, I can have it when socially appropriate - that is, if I'm out with friends who all want McDonald's for lunch, or something like that. For this purpose, fast food means McDonald's, KFC, Hungry Jack's, Red Rooster, pizza or fish and chips. The purpose here is to save money, not be more healthy.

6. Resume Japanese lessons
The aim of this is to pass the JLPT 3 in 2013.

7. Post more often
This means posting at least five days a week.

8. Live like a sentai!
This proves to be one of the hardest every year. I've long maintained that I strongly support the values and behaviours encouraged by Super Sentai, and that I intend to raise my kids according to them (they may or may not watch the show, but will be raised as though I was cultivating a future generation of sentai warriors). And over time, as much as I'd rather be a blue or a pink, I have come to accept that I am a yellow - and I need to behave as such.

I now automatically THINK like a yellow - I never consciously have to think "What would Luka/Moune/Kotoha/Tsubasa/et.al. do?" but behaving like one is a different matter entirely. Knowing what I should and want to do, and actually doing it, are two different things. So this year I need to make an extra special effort to keep this up (inasmuch as is socially acceptable - a yellow sentai hero would want to say things to my boss that would likely get me fired).

This doesn't mean emulating a favourite character - it means acting consistently on the values and beliefs that made me like a particular character in the first place.

So there we go. Comment and link me to your resolutions, if you have any. :)

Today, I went to meet my mum after she finished work. I arrived a little early, so popped out to KFC to get a Gaytime Krusher.

I sat down and started drinking it, and a man sat down next to me in my booth. He asked me if I could spare $2 for a piece of chicken, and I gave him $0.85c I had in my pocket. He pulled out a large tub full of money and added my contributions.

Without a thank you or any real acknowledgement, he left and asked others for money. No-one gave him any and, without buying his chicken, he came back and sat next to me. Then looked intently at me.

I suspected he was going to ask again, so I got up and left.

Now, here's the deal:

My mum works in the Melbourne CBD, and I have been meeting her after work a fair bit lately. I normally have to wait fifteen minutes or so for her to finish things up for the day and come meet me. I often get approached by beggars while I wait.

The time before this, a man approached me and gave me his life story: a long description of his mental illness, and details about his time in prison (he had just been released). He was, apparently, seeking support from the church next door to my mum's work.

He asked for money. I gave him a five dollar note. He then said "Don't you have more?" I told him no. He then insisted I check my pockets, and began to lean over me. I asserted myself physically by sitting more upright, and refused to look for any more money. Without a thank you, he left and asked the next person.

Now, I am an extremely sympathetic person... and an easy mark. I feel terribly for people in bad situations and really want to help, so I often give money to charities, or people needing it on the street. I don't mind this.

But clearly, in these two cases, I was a sucker. Especially with today's guy - he had much more money in his big jar than I had.

Unfortunately, these two have ruined it for anyone else. I will never refuse support to someone who I can see genuinely needs it, but the benefit of the doubt is now well-and-truly gone.

I just... yeah. Me the sucker!

I was just watching Huckabee on FOX News and saw an American Republican Presidential candidate (a governor, I think? Mitt Romney?) say:

"There are some in the President's party who hate the American enterprise system and are doing everything they can to impede the grpwth of our economy."

That... what?

Why not just say: "Some of the President's cabinet are Nazi Communist paedophiles! And black!"

I mean, really. Some of the other things these people were saying were really disturbing.

I was horrified.

Touchscreens and I scare and confuse each other, so I use my phone's voice recognition service to send SMS / text messages.

I tried to send one to my mother saying: "I love you, mummy. Come save me."

My phone decided to send:

Cut due to major swearingness. )

I left my phone in a taxi the other day.

Just like the last time I was separated from my phone, I decided to go to the store and get the exact same phone. This time, though, I changed my mind once I was in the store and opted to get my first "smartphone".

And I have been completely defeated by it.

Yes, it has all sorts of nifty features - I can, for example, hone in on the exact location of my Google+ friends and view a Google Street View image of their current location. That's very fun; but I can get by very well without it.

Sending messages and making calls has become a lot more complicated, and my facial hair keeps pressing '0' on the touchscreen when I'm talking on the phone.

I guess it is just a case of getting used to it - I had virtually the same phone for five years - but I'm not understanding how a "smartphone" is a revolutionary, vital accessory, as 90% of the Internet seems to think.
